Does anyone know how to take an original 67 Ford 4-speed shift handle apart? I need to change my shifter boot.

Thanks

Do not take the shifter apart. You stretch the boot over the lockout levers. Do one side at a time using a philips screw driver shaft, or something round, to pull the boot over one side of reverse lockout. After you get the first side slipped over, the other side can be done too. The rubber WILL stretch far enough to do this......

Remove the shift knob, then gently slide the boot over the "T" handle... Patience is highly recommended!

Put the boot in very hot water until it softens, that will make it easier.

After the hot water squirt some liquid soap inside it, that will help it slide over the "T". I replaced mine last year (with an NOS piece) and although I did not think it would slide over without rippinjg it did. Looks fine now, the rubber goes right back to the correct size.
