I recently installed the american autowire harness on my 67 coupe and i noticed the fuel gauge starts reading as soon as i connect the battery.shouldnt the gauge work when you turn the key? What could possibly be wrong? Thanks
It sounds like the gauge is being fed by a constant power feed instead of the switched power it's normally wired to.
Is it only the fuel gauge? Normally the temperature, fuel, and oil pressure gauges are all fed by the same power. Though I suppose if you haven't started the car then the oil and temp are probably staying low anyway.
Since you're running an aftermarket harness you'll have to look at their wiring diagram to see where the power's coming from and where to move it to put it on a switched power source.
