The gas cap on one of my '68s is missing the security wire, but I have a replacement wire. The only thing is that the crimp union to join the ends of the wire together broke when I tried to reuse it. Any suggestions on a correct replacement ?

Surely Home Depot or AutoZone has something similar that you can use.
I have some large crimp wire connectors for electrical work that the plastic could be striped off of, but I bet they would sell what you need in the "connector" section of HD or AZ.

Go to an electrical shop and they will have a double or single wire splicer. The cable will fit into these and you can just crimp it together..I tried solder but it doesn't hold that well, crimping them works though.
