Last year before I parked I went to start the car and it would start. I coul dsmell gas like it was flooded. I opened up my hood and gas was coming up out of the carb. Whats up with this?? I did get it running by takeing th etop of the carb off and checking the float but it looked ok. after that it ran fine the rest of the sunner. Any ideas on what it could be

Sounds like the floats were stuck, if the floats are misadjusted this is what happens also, too high usually. So it corrected itself after you tinkered with the floats?

A piece of trash can get stuck between the needle and seat and cause that. It can even be almost too small to see and a little jiggle knock it loose.

Carb is just a small commode!!!! If your commode tank is running fresh water out in your bathroom floor...what's the cause?
* The valve that the float acts on is stuck open. (I.E. Needle and Seat)
* The float has sank or it is adjusted wrong.

I usually remove it (needle) scrub it with toothpaste and a toothbrush and reinstall it.
