I have a 69 with a 200. It has been off the road for a year and I'm now trying to get it running. It will not start. I have eliminated timing problems, the only abnormal thing I see is gas vapors coming out of the carb as I'm trying to start it, sometimes shooting as high as a foot out of the carb. The engine turns over fine it just won't "catch". Any suggestions?

Gas vapors coming out of the carb?

That is probably because it isn't burning the gasoline your pumping into it. It could also indicate a timing problem.

Does it backfire when you try to start it?

In spite of your statement about the timing, I'd make sure the distributor isn't in 180 degrees out of position. If that checks out - and you are sure you are getting spark, I'd say the timing chain has jumped a couple of teeth.
