There is a guy with 3.55 8" gears on craigslist that has them listed as "Set of new Ford 8" 3.55 gears still in box - $80". Is this a good deal?

Pretty good deal, if they're new. How good depends on he brand. You can get the Summit brand ring/pinion for $140, but a set of Richmond gears would run about $266.

If they're not new, I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole.

Be sure and at least replace the crush sleeve, and both pinion bearings, while you're in there. Personally, though, I didn't want to have to pull my rear again, so rebuilt the entire thing.

I emailed the guy and he said that they are Motive Gears. Is that a good brand? Worth the 80 bucks?
