I got a '65 Mustang with a 289, AFR heads and a C4.
She's waiting for me in the parking lot outside this old building's back door.
Me and my partner Money built her straight from a POS,
And I drive her from town to town.
I only run her when it's sunny, got no strings attached.
I rev her up before I shut her down.

Tonight, tonight the highway's bright,
I'm going to strap into the driver's seat.
Summer's here and the time is right.
I'm going cruising down my street.

I met her at church eleven years ago,
We were singing in the choir, my first day.
She looked in my eyes and I had to act.
So I drove that little girl away.
But though there's wrinkles around my baby's eyes
She still holds me tight through the night.
Way out back the barn is dark
And just next door our three boys are alright.
She sits on the porch of out little house
And all her pretty dreams are worn.
She stares off with me into the night
With the eyes of one who loves for just being born

For all the shut-down strangers and hot rod angels
Rumbling through this promised land
Tonight my baby and me we're gonna ride to the sea
And go for a walk in the sand.

Tonight, tonight the highway's bright,
I'm going to strap into the driver's seat.
Summer's here and the time is right.
That's me cruising down your street.

Hey Bruce Springsteen. You should write more songs about Fords. Then you wouldn't sound so frickin depressed all the time! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Hehe - great "restomod version" of Racing in the Streets....

I never understood how he had a "69 Chevy with a 396, fuelie heads........"
Fuelie Heads are a smallblock item - they won't fit a 396 /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif! I guess it just sounded good....

You've missed your calling....

Yea, as a longtime Springsteen fan, the fact that he was a Chevy guy always tweaked me a bit...but not enough to stop me from listening to his music. I like your version better anyway.

What are "fuelie heads" anyway? I've always wondered.

Fuelie heads are kind of like the ulitmate early Chevy factory head. They would be similar in desirability to Ford Hypo heads. They got the name fuelie because they were factory stock on fuel injected SBC's. They appeared on both 327's and 350's. It would take one HELL of a machine shop to get a set to fit a 396...unless perhaps Bruce's 396 was a bored and stroked small block? They had big valves, either 1.94/1.50 or 2.02/1.60 and relatively small combustion chambers. Much like Ford's hypo heads they've been relagated to history as performance pieces by the vast number of aftermarket heads. In their day, they were THE thing to wake up a mouse motor. Now their value is limited to "original correctness' in fuelie vettes and the like.
