Got everything clutch and tranny wise bolted to the rear of the engine. But after checking the little tin dust shield which mounts between the engine and the bell housing, I noticed it doesn't match the starter hole and the flywheel inspection plate doesn't fit either. The 81 302 automatic bellhousing mustof been a different shape at the bottom than the early 302 bellhousings I have.

Looks like I will need to remove the tranny, bellhousing, and clutch assy and install the proper dust shield. :p You know the old saying..."Measure once, cut twice!" :: At least the clutch and tranny fit up perfectly to the engine and the bellhousing worked well. I had to change the throwout bearing lever to accomodate the one I had from another bellhousing which uses the anti rattle clip. Plus I had to flip over the ring gear teeth on the flywheel as the gears on the first side were worn too much.

This weekend, the engine should go in this weekend!! :D
