Nearing completion of the upgrade to disc brakes here and have noticed something which I do not recall reading in any of the related posts.

When you replace all of the spindles, tierods, etc. do you have to cut the tie rod lengths in order to get the front wheels aligned? I ask this since I have everything bolted on and still in the air and noticed the wheels are not parallel. I took care to make sure they were somewhat close in total end-to-end length on the original tierod links and installed everything. My assumption here is the end link at the end of the spindles are a little different than the original drum spindles.

Therefore, as I screwed in on the threaded collars I ran out of room since the tips of the inner/outer rods ran into each other. Are we expecting to cut these down or did I install something wrong?

I did read recently (on this forum) that cutting is required. I just had my car aligned with this swap. I still have about 1/4" per side of adjustment. I'm using '65 Mustang inner and '78 Granada outers with Mustang adjusting sleeves.

Some require cutting, some don't.

Also, toe in don't mean much until you have the car on the ground and have driven it a bit to settle things in. Up and down the driveway is enough. When you put the wheels on the ground, they are towed under a bit and you need to roll the car some to get them to straighten out.

For the future, just buy the drop-in sleeves from Mustang Sevev and use the mustang tie rods. The sleeves fill the hole and just tighten the nut. You never have to take the tie rod out of the adjusting sleeve!

The Granada tie rod ends are too long for the 65-6 cars but will generally work as-is on the later chasses.

Iv'e done two on early cars. Neither reqd cutting.
