Granada Disc brake swap on a 1967 mustang.

So, my 1967 mustang has drum brakes all the way around since its just a base 6 cyl car. I've heard of how people do granada disc brake swaps. At the time i didnt think much of it because i just thought to myself "where the **** am i supposed to get a granada?" but today i had the great realization that i work at O'reillys and order brand new granada brakes and get my discount and do a really cheap disc brake conversion on my pony. BUT I still need yall's help. what are ALLLLL the parts i need to change out my drums with granada disc? i already priced the rotors, pads, and calipers as you can see in this picture here.

Email John at Opentracker Racing. Explain what your situation is (auto parts store). He will talk you through this to your best benefit. You don't want the Granada spindles, due to the difference in steering arm location and resulting bumpsteer. Opentracker has the corrected Granada type spindles that will still work with all the other stuff you can get with your discount. To reiterate, email John and he will talk you through this. Trust me on this.
Once you've achieved enough brake force to lock the wheels, how much more do you need?

Unless you've got something crazy like 10" wide 20's on it, properly working stock brakes will lock your wheels. Tire adhesion will be your limiting factor.
I have granada brakes and I would not recommend them, they change the steering geometry negatively and do not bolt onto the spindles you have anyway. Since you will need to be changing spindles to get disc brakes, there are better options. Remember, if you want discs, you will need wheels also with 5 lugs. That said, what are your intentions for this car? Do you ever see yourself putting in a V8? If so then spindles are in your future to update to a 5 lug setup which you will need to do in the rear also. if not, I would seriously consider dolling up your drum brakes, they will work just fine and stop you from having to engineer everything downstream. Yes the master has to go, it likely has a residual valve built in that has to be removed to work with disks or they will drag.

By the way, one advantage to staying with Drum brakes is they are self actuating e.g. like having power brakes. Since you get deals at O'reilys that seems a great way to go. Lots of youtubes on drum brakes I imagine, get em right and remember to ride them with your left foot in very deep puddles and pump them on really long grades...

Hey folks, I want to replace/convert my rear drum brakes to disc brakes. Firstly, is it a difficult thing to DYI? I have replaced drum brake parts myself and it wasn't a daunting task. If it is relatively easy, I would love to do it myself. Now, where is the best place to get the rear brake disc replacement kit? My car is a 1967 Coupe.

You could get the brackets from MustangSteve that allows for the use of S197 calipers on the rear end.

Rear brakes do very little on these cars with light ass end making drums sufficient. Disc brakes look nice behind big wheels, but do little to improve stopping distance.

As you figure out which discs to use, figure out how the parking brake will work. ;)

skip rear discs unless you just want the look...otherwise get a disc kit from Chockostang or CSRP....Opentracker or SOT will also be good sources.

This is a 2021 topic.
Hey folks,
Welcome to the forum JohnnyL. This old thread is pretty much entirely focused on front brakes. There are lots of other threads about rear disc conversions about if you want to search. Feel free to start a new thread about it to see what the latest take is these days if you like.
