I am adding GT style exhaust trumpets to a 66 Fastback. This leaves several holes in the trunk cross brace and tail light panel unused. Did Ford just cover these with sealer or plugs on GT cars? From the Body Assembly Manual it looks like plugs were used, and a piece of tape. Does anyone have pictures of what it should look like?

Ford just covered with sealer. You could take some 3M strip caulk and roll it up to the size of a marble and put in the hole

Thanks, that is what I figured, I have never seen plugs back there, but I haven’t worked on a real GT in a long time.

I called it sealer, but not seam sealer. Its what has been called "dum dum". Its the same stuff used to fill the holes in a non windshield washer car at the cowl for the squirters

That’s what I was assuming. I’ll use some ribbon sealer rolled up in ball and push it in

Actually, the 65-66 GT had small rubber plugs to seal the holes left by the deletion of the bumper guards.

The Barn used to list them, as
G16212 65-66 GT trunk floor Plugs, set of four, required to seal holes left by elimination of bumper guard brackets ............$1.25

I can't be sure but I think this is them-

Thanks 22GT, that must be what the assembly manual was referring to. I’ll see if I can track them down

Just making sure you both know, 22GT's picture is a link to the product that you may need...

Allen
Thanks Allen, I figured that out. It seems none of the Mustang Venders sell them. You have to go straight to AMK to buy them. Luckily I needed a few more things as well since AMK's minimum order is $30

22GT do the plugs go in from the trunk side or the bumper side?

Does anyone know? I bought some of the plugs from AMK, but it’s unclear which side they go in from
