Taking my car to the drag strip for the first time on the 15th.
Curious to see what people’s guess is.

Details.
Car. 68 coupe
Engine 381ci Cleveland
Engine Dyno on stand was slightly over 500hp.
Car probably weighs 3000lbs.
4.11 locker in rear.
Back halfed 18” wide MT tires.
Super Sniper/hyperapark carb,dizzy.
Powerglide 2speed tranny, with transbrake.

What say you.
What’s your guess?

Because it takes a lot to dial in a drag car, and because the first trip to the strip has little to do with what the car is capable of, I'm going to say 12.2 @ 112mph

Have fun!
Good news is I’ve been driving the bejeeezers out of on the street working the kinks out making pulls.
And already starting doing data logs etc with the sniper.

Just fixed a shifter/transmission bug today, and another 10% more throttle adjustment. I didn’t even realize I was only getting about 85%throttle according to the throttle sensor.

It’s doing well.
If I can see a 11 anything, I’d be thrilled for my first trip.

1/4 mile time 11.2 at 120 mph and 1/8 mile time at 7 at 100 mph is what my guess is for what the car is capable of, conservative guess at that. That's if all goes well... Honest guess though with your first time there, add a half second to the time and knock off some mph. Weather, track conditions, car tune and you will also play a big factor.

For some more realistic calculations, http://www.wallaceracing.com/Calculators.htm, very useful site that I use

Allegedly the car ran a 10.3 with same bottom end, a more race oriented intake, and a .700 solid roller cam.
Same heads.
Although the motor had higher compression and a1050 dominator on it.... I’m pretty sure that was with a shot of nitrous on it too. Not positive.

If I see anything with a 11, I’d be thrilled....

Well. While out testing the 2 step, it appears I smoked the transmission.

Pulling it now.
No ET anytime soon.

Ouch, as well! The Wallace racing calculator estimated 10.8 at 125 assuming a total weight of 3200 lbs with driver, 500 flywheel horsepower and optimum traction. This is why I hate automatics:mad:

Well it’s back from transmission shop in 24 hours.

We updated to top of the line parts and the powerglide is now good to 1100hp!!

That should be plenty!!! Ha!
Really just want it to be as reliable as possible...

Hopefully get it stabbed tomorrow!
Might just make the track Friday.

Well the transmission is back in....
Only enough, it almost fell in.....
I was able to get it stabbed in by myself. Not sure how. All on my back in the garage.

Then.... as does typically happens, it took me 4 hours to put the drive shaft in.
The new heavy duty output shaft was so crisp and new, the drive shaft held up about 1/4” from going in the transmission. A friend came over and we FINALLY got it in. Was probably the smallest of burrs on it.

All I lack is the starter, exhaust, and transmission lines to the front cooler.
There is a slight chance I make it to the track tomorrow.
Probably not, but maybe.
