Just stopped off at a local "u pull it" yard to check out 351W availablility. Found one with a factory 4bbl intake in an old early 80's van. Guy at the counter wanted $250 for the long block! Geez, you'd think the thing still ran!

Mike,

bare blocks here in SoCal at the swap meets are fetching 250 to 400 bucks. If the long block is sound (ie no broken crank, cracked heads, etc) I would think that was a pretty good price. If you are going for a performance buildup, go for the short block as you will definitely want a different set of heads...

Maybe he wasn't so crazy. I guess I was spoiled by seeing a few friends of mine have old engines given to them to "clear the junk out" of places. Maybe I'll pony up the $$$ for a 94 or later block so I can use a roller cam. BTW is that your 68 Shelby?

You'd smoke crack too,if you wallowed in a bone yard everyday for $6.35 an hour.

I have found, that If you don't need an engine or trans right now, they are dirt cheap. If you want/need one the price is in direct proportion to how badly you need/want it.

P.S. My donor engine/Trans is a '91 Ltd Crown Vic Police Car with an AOD Trans. Car only has 104k, will pull motor/trans and drop in '67 coupe without a rebuild. I drove the Car home for $500.00
