Hagerty “Drive your car”

There have been discussions on what is covered with your classic car insurance. It’s been stated that if it’s not in writing you can’t necessarily believe that it’s true. So I just renewed my Hagerty insurance. And this statement was included in the paperwork I received.

So I guess drive your car for the fun of it!

A few things here... first of all I'd be very hesitant about going with a company that was considerably less than all of the others. That would make me assume there is some sort of reduced level of coverage or that getting a claim approved was difficult, and honestly it would make me a bit nervous going with someone like that. I've got Hagerty for my classic cars, one of which I have an agreed upon value I believe for $50k and it's $310 or so a year for the policy. Even if State Farm, which was mentioned above, was say $100 less, it's not like you're saving thousands of dollars every year or anything. With Hagerty, I've got no mileage restrictions and they've never asked me for pictures of the odometer or anything like that. Which makes me believe that you could drive the car to work or wherever a few times a week, as long as you don't use it as a daily driver.

But again, they don't have a mileage restriction and they don't ask for pictures of the odometer, so how they'd prove you were driving the car daily is beyond me. When I was shopping around for classic car insurance, I did get a quote from I believe it was American Modern, which for the exact same policy as Hagerty I think they were around $40-$50 less for the year. But I've got Progressive for my home, boat and DD auto policies, so I get a discount through them if I do insure my classics with Hagerty. Which the multi policy discount through Hagerty actually put everything at less money than it would've been if I went with American Modern and kept everything else the same. I've never had to make a claim with Hagerty, or even Progressive for that matter, so I couldn't say how they are in that regard but other than sometimes being more money, I've heard very few negatives about Hagerty. I believe you do have to have a locked and secured garage, or at least I do, and then you have to have a DD vehicle for anyone that is of driving age. Though neither of those are issues for me, and I wouldn't leave my classics outside and unsecured anyway.

It's funny how Hagerty has such a stigma for driving limitations, yet I've never heard or read of anyone having an issue with it a claim over it. Even Hagerty must be aware of this rumor since they included the letter the OP posted saying no limitations. And yet, every one here is still a sceptic lol.
I did when I was younger and living with my parents. They said that each driver in the family had to have a DD vehicle so that you weren't daily driving your classic cars. At the time, my parents were carpooling to work together and so they were fine with us only having 3 daily driver vehicles. The next year when it came to renewal time, they said they wouldn't honor that anymore. I asked them how that works out if a family has 5 kids, does that mean they need to have 7 DD vehicles, plus whatever classic cars they have on top of that?
Most of these replies are assuming any damage falls on Haggerty or similar to claim. Yeah, car gets keyed and you don't have the persons info, but a collision where it was another drivers fault (lions share of situations) would their insurance not be responsible? If they don't have collision, don't you have uninsured/under insured driver coverage as a backup with your agency like I do with Haggerty? If not, then that's on you. Lots of conspiracy and what if's w/out specific examples shared.

Show me a claim where you rear ended someone on a weekday on the way to work and Haggerty denied it. Show me an example where someone hit you and Haggery denied it. Someones belt buckle scratched the car at a show (happened to my Charger) and they denied it (they covered mine).

It just like anything else. For the thousands and thousands of paid claims, the only ones that get press are the cases where they aren't covered. Just like skydiving deaths. Never see the successful ones on the news, only the splats. You really think they would be around as long as they have been insuring cars way more expensive than ours if they were here to only take $ and not pay out claims? Come on....
Agreed. I've yet to hear of anyone getting into an accident whether it was their fault or not with Hagerty to have their claim denied or even argued over. I'm assuming most of those that have had an issue with Hagerty, or maybe even other insurance companies or in general, are likely because of a salesperson that didn't know what they're talking about, is new or misinformed, or maybe there are certain restrictions in individual states that apply to them and not others? As mentioned before, has anyone on here with Hagerty ever had their claim denied because the agent said they drove the car too much? And has anyone with Hagerty ever had to take pictures of the odometer each year to prove they drive under xxxx amount of miles per year? If that's the case, I've certainly never had to do that before.
