AZ, umm,...yeah, read some of our insurance threads here. We had a VMF ember who was out for a ride in his Stang, just for fun. As he was out, his Mrs called him and asked him to stop at the hardware store and get washers to fix a leaky faucet. He stopped and the hrdwr store, and someone hit his car in the lot. The company was fighting him because going to the hardware store is 'running erands' There was a couple with Hagerty who went out for dinner, and they were hit, hard, and the husband was killed. They had previously stopped before dinner at the ATM to get cash. Hagerty was fighting the widow, because they had stopped at the ATM, and going to the bank is 'running errands', therefore canceling the coverage for the trip. Thats the mentality. Classic insurance is a ripoff, IMO. Now, to be fair, I live in Michigan, and our insurance situation is among the worst. Perhaps they're just mad at me, personally. My record is clean, has been for years. Married, kids grown and out of the house. Have plenty of other cars if bad weather or going to bad locations. I think the classic insurance deal is just an enormous cash cow for them. And the problem is compounded by agents who don't always understand whats offered, or whats needed. LSG

Depends on many factors. I had "stated value" on my 90 coupe through American Family. I personally want an agreed value. So I switched it over to Grundy.

All insurance in my opinion is somewhat of a rip off. But I'd rather have an agreed value on all of our cars than some normal insurance company saying my 93 foxbody mustang is only worth 15k according to nada or kbb. I have it valued at 35k through Grundy.

We all hope we never have to use it, but I can't say Grundy is great either, until I have to submit a claim, which I hope I never have to. If they treat me poorly, that's 6 cars insured through them that will no longer be.

I also have Hagerty. Wasn’t sure about coverage being my first classic car rodeo. I got past the sales laters to one of their licensed insurance agents, batted some exact wording out of the policy back and forth with “ does this part of the policy mean this in plain English?” Got confirmations in writing. Saved them all. The answer basic was, “yes, you can drive it anywhere, as long as you don’t assign it daily driver full time duty, you must have another vehicle insured with another company for that duty.” As long as you can prove that, you are covered. Good enough for me. I drive mine everywhere. A couple days a week.

Every insurance company is great when all they are doing is receiving and cashing checks. When the table turns and they have to write a check, things change.

I have my car covered for liability only. If it gets totaled, it's been a great 40 years and the premiums I have saved would buy me a replacement. I drive it to work on sunny days. Hardware store, no worries.

@xcelr8 mentioned to me yesterday this was a lively discussion! I had State Farm agreed value insurance meaning a dollar value on what the car was worth and would be paid out was agreed on in the 80's and 90's on all my old cars, even this is a point of contention in this and all related threads. Life happened. When I got back into cars in the late 2000's I used Hagerty without issue unit 2018 until I wanted to drive the Mustang on the street when I felt like it and a call to Hagerty had them saying, nope no way, not to work or errands ever. So I went back to State Farm and for less money, maybe because my home and cars are also insured with them, and got a policy that basically said 4000 miles a year and not a primary vehicle. Indoor secure storage and some other common sense rules as well.

This is in Indiana! The rules from the same insurance company could and very well may be completely different in any other state. xcelr8 seems happy with his Hagerty coverage, and they probably changed their rules after myself and others left them. Insurance on my Mustang is pretty much useless anyway because it only covers me in the garage, to and from the event on the trailer, and a bit of test and tune I do on the street. I tried event insurance a few times last year but it's just too expensive for a $20,000 coupe. Hagerty was hinting at moderately priced event insurance last year and even handed out goodie bags at some autocrosses in Indiana that I attended but I have yet to see it available on their site other than a few specialty events.
