The headliner in my coupe is in excellent shape except for some stains. Will painting it with Vinyl dye work? Has anyone tried this? I hate to tear down a tight fitting liner if I can avoid it.

I dyed a headliner in one of my previous mustangs black using off the shelf interior dye and it was pretty successful, I am not sure how this approach would work with a lighter color. Perhaps a gentle scrubbing with fabric cleaner will help with the stains if you headliner is light in color. Good luck.

I used Comet and a scrub brush to remove stains in a headliner.
