i seem to remember this question months back on the old forum but using the search engine turned up "seat belt anchors"-?!?!

I am replacing the head gasket on my 200cid and noticed that on the old gasket, not all of the triangular water passage holes had been cut out. only 3 were cut out in the correct triangular shape, the rest had a small drill hole in them. Is there some reason why all of the passages should not be completely open?

also, these water passages(on head and block) have a great deal of corrosion on them - is there any way to clear out the big chunks (dipping?) physically or chemically? what is the best way to clean up the head parts prior to reinstalling the valve stem seals?
