Headlight problem

533 3
Was pulling the 66 into the garage last night and the headlights started going off and back on again by themselves. They stay off for about two seconds at a time. Also, when I hit the dimmer switch the lights go completly out for a couple of seconds before getting brighter. I'm an electrical idiot and don't want to buy parts I don't need. I thought probably the light switch needs replacing but thought I would check here first. Thanks for any help.

I would guess if you have the original switch it needs to be replaced, I'm replacing mine today or tomorrow. I'm have no dash lights that why i'm changing mine and the fact that it's 36 years old. Before you replace it check all your connections, It sounds like a loose conection somewhere, Just "wiggle" the connections and watch what the lights do.....Good luck.

Sounds to me like bad contacs or switch. Clean corroded contacts and earth connections. If that doesn't help, check the switch. Switch the lights on and off a few times.

It sounds like your headlight internal circuit breaker is being tripped by excessive current. Check your connections from the firewall out the the headlights...if all A-OK, then replace the headlight switch. All of this will be cheap.
