Do I have to remove the whole console to replace the gear shift boot? Looks like the trim plate around the MT gear shift would come out separately. So far haven't figured out how. Don't want to tear anything up so I thought I'd consult the forum.

Thanks

To be "factory correct" you should remove the console and the front carpet piece, because the shift boot mounts to the transmission tunnel under the carpet.
If you want to you can just remove the trim plate by removing the two screws located at the front of the trim plate. Then it just lifts out. Cut the carpet at the corners of the shifter opening to expose the screws that hold the boot down. That should allow you to replace the boot and with the trim plate back on the cut corners will not show.
