Well I used the dishwasher to clean the valve covers and aluminum intake manifold. The parts are OK. I knew it was a risk, but the dishwasher is coated inside with all kinds of residue. In retrospect, I am not sure this stuff isn't toxic.

What can I used to clean it all out? Simple Green?

Yes, I would use Simple Green and then maybe follow up with a good detergent like liquid Tide or Whisk...or what I would really do is figure out a way to supply solvent to the dishwasher's water inlet, and a return system, and just turn the dishwasher into a dedicated parts cleaner. Be sure to use quality AN fittings and braided hose throughout.

Throw 5 pounds of nuts and bolts and a gallon of kerosene and run the dishwasher for 15 minutes. Empty it out and spray with textured trunk spray.

Do what Teebone says. Been there, done that! Turn the hot water
tank up to "HOT" that will help also. I had to run mine 4-5 times to
get it back to normal. We will all E-Mail your house and ask to have
some parts cleaned. HE! HE!
They do a great job of cleaning hub caps though!, without the mess.
I know a guy who cleaned his entire 427 FE in the dishwasher, and
said it was the cleanest running motor he ever had!

This may seem very odd, but I've heard it a couple of times. Pour a whole can of Tang, the orange powder drink stuff in there and run it through a cycle. Have not tried it, but hear that it will clean up good.

Thanks everyone. Tried just about every suggestion and the dishwasher is now in pretty good shape.

Couldn't find any Tang in the cupboards and I didn't think, even with a really strong plunger, I could get that can of Coke down the toilet.

Thanks again,

Russ

Try Dawn dishwashing liquid. Aircraft hydraulic fluid and engine oil would get on my white uniform shirt every once in a while when working around the jets. My wife would wash my shirts in Dawn and they would come out clean.

My son got me into this and I'm having a ball

What dishwasher? Just what are you hollering about? That? I didn't even know what it was! GEEZ, What is that stuff in there?

Dang! Just when I got used to being "strange", I became a "newbie", then a "tire-kicker". Now I'm a "beginner"?.....hmmmmmm...where do I start?

When I wash my shop rags, there's a nice scum of grease inside the washing machine. SWMBO screams bloody murder! Simple Green doesn't cut it, but Ajax does. I run a quick rinse cycle to get all the chemicals out.

I take the parts out of the dishwasher before the dry cycle . Set it back to start
put in the standard amt of dish washer detergent and run it with the DW empty..
Never had a problem. Oh did I say I have been divorced since 1985.
