I am installing an aftermarket stereo in my 70 mach. It need an unswitched power supply for the presets and the clock (1 Amp). I thought that the cig lighter would be a good source...Not. every time I hook up the power it blows the interior lights fuse (14 Amp). Why would this be? it cannot draw more than the cig lighter itself can it? Where else would be a good place to hook up without hacking up my harness or running wire back to battery??

If it doesn't blow a fuse until you plug the stereo in then you need to look at the stereo wiring. The cigar lighter should be sufficient for your memory wire. Does the stereo work on the switched 12v?

Stereo works great until I tie in the Unswitched line to the Cig lighter. Then wemmo fuse blow. Cig lighter is not pushed in and drawing power either.

Confirm that it is the correct wire and if so the stereo is probably fubar'd. Run the wire to the battery temporily and see if it heats up, be prepared to unhook quickly so car doesn't go up in flames...

If you take off the black plastic shroud on your steering column, there are a bunch of wires that are big (2-4 gauge?). I use one of those for my memory hook-up, and another for my 12V switched.

Does your cig lighter work properly? That is, without blowing the fuse? If so, I don't see why the stereo would blow it unless it's FUBARed. I have mine connect to my cig lighter with no problems.
