Hi, my name’s Scotty and I’m addicted to Mustangs

It has been about 10 years since I have turned a wrench in anger. Thanks for all the help, tips, suggestions, scoldings and other help on here, I finally went out and pulled the cover off the 65. I even crawled under the rear, well I had to because the trunk was locked and I didn’t see the little slot to turn to unlock it at first. A few things, the Mopar guys who did my bodywork and paint did more than I thought. I knew they put new seals on my rear end and welded in my subs, but I seen new brake lines and hoses under there as well. Time to take stock of what I have and what I need. Snuggle Bunny and I will inventory the stack of boxes I have from NPD and find out how much of the original stuff I have in other boxes. Time to get moving. This will still probably be slow, but I’m feeling it. Thanks for the support, and even for the good natured shaming.

So I go and check my rear quarter extensions and I’ve got the early kind that does not have the little gasket. So my question is, how exactly do I mount these so it’s not metal on metal, causing my paint to chip?
I love archeology

This kind of thing just fascinated me to no end....

I’ve been trying to get me a new NPD catalog so I can start chasing down little parts(pretty sure I need lots of screws and bolts, maybe even a master kit). Either I’m doing something wrong on the website or they think Dirty Ankle Road is a joke. I did find a 2014 catalog, so it’s on my grab and go reading list now. Still have a barn to finish siding and that pesky full time job with an hour plus commute both ways, but I’m making some baby steps. Keep encouraging me, or shaming me, I’m trying.

First time in a LONG time messing with the Mustang. I finally got around to getting a c-clip so that I could make my engine stand mobile again so I decided to take a look at the 98 Explorer motor. I've been fretting and putting off even looking at it, since it has pretty much been in storage (good and bad) since 1998. I rolled it out, got the tools and began deconstructing some of the Explorer "stuff" I won't be using. I was encouraged because every bolt came out easily and looked like they were brand new. Dipstick shows oil level good and it honestly looks like it was just poured out of a bottle. Nowhere ready for this engine yet and I still have quite a ways to go, but I have to admit I was stoked down in the barn putting my hands on it.

My money is on you, but I have crazy streaks of productivity now and then. I have been back and forth in my mind on what to do until I'm just about sick of thinking about it. Originally it was going to be a moderate cam, P heads and headers with a Sniper. Now I'm leaning heavily towards a Pro Flo 4 since I no longer have my old 289 (don't ask) so I need injection, intake and distributor, so the Pro Flo makes a lot of sense plus the benefit of multiport injection. P heads would be ok with this, but would really be the choking point unless I had them ported. 300 hp would probably be good, but if I can get 350, so much the better. I'm thinking some mid-level aluminum heads for both the better flow as well as getting some weight off the front. I DO like to hit the curves pretty hard. So I'm thinking maybe something like Skip White heads unless something pops up better for a killer deal. Retiree funds, you know.....

I have to say, I’m surprised/impressed/happy about the condition of this “new” ‘98 5.0 so far. Heads look clean enough to eat off of under the covers. Still has drops of oil clinging to the springs here and there. Gettting encouraged...

Decided to roll the old girl out into the sun for the first time in years. Putting a few LED lights in the bay it is in so that I can see better when I crawl back in to continue the AAW wiring. Will start putting parts back on now that I have the Master Body Kit. Good to finally be doing something. Need to wash about 5 years worth of stink bug tracks and spider eggs off, too. Will wait for something out of the 30s or 40s for that, though.....

Since I had the Mustang out while I wired up some LED lights, I thought I’d dip into the Master kit and bolt on a few parts. Quarter extensions were not bad, but valance fought me. To be fair, I discovered the rear taillight panel was V shaped when I started stripping it. Looks like the little old lady from Jacksonville who owned it backed into a telephone pole. Body guys welded in a new panel, but I have no idea how good they did. They were Mopar guys, so you get what you get...

Kept bolting on parts today. Hood pin needed adjusting, bumpers installed and adjusted, headlight bucket assemblies and trim, gravel guard and front valence. I thought I had failed to purchase bucket assemblies but finally found them in boxes under my side windows. I had already panicked and confided in Allen that I was a moron. That's still to be seen. I had to struggle quite a bit with the grill brace. It did not want to slide back over the headlight assemblies as far as I would have liked. Seems they are thicker than the brace is or vice versa. Its on and secured, but I scratched some paint and I'm not sure if it will stick out more than I'm comfortable with once the grill trim pieces go on. Funny thing, I found I have two sets of original grill trim pieces. Not sure why?? Place that had my car did almost all Mopars, so I'm not sure where these came from? Maybe I picked them up at the Charlotte swap meet a few decades ago. Oh well, back to the puzzle.

Do you have a full set of those wheel chocks or just the one?

Allen
We all can’t afford fancy Roll Tide inscribed wheel chocks like you and Stapler. Glad you got a glimpse into how the other side lives...

No way. I’ve done more work in the last twenty days than I have in the last 20 years. Going to start reassembling the louvers tomorrow. First I have to put a hitch on the GTI for a bike rack, then it’s louver city baby!
