It has been about 10 years since I have turned a wrench in anger. Thanks for all the help, tips, suggestions, scoldings and other help on here, I finally went out and pulled the cover off the 65. I even crawled under the rear, well I had to because the trunk was locked and I didn’t see the little slot to turn to unlock it at first. A few things, the Mopar guys who did my bodywork and paint did more than I thought. I knew they put new seals on my rear end and welded in my subs, but I seen new brake lines and hoses under there as well. Time to take stock of what I have and what I need. Snuggle Bunny and I will inventory the stack of boxes I have from NPD and find out how much of the original stuff I have in other boxes. Time to get moving. This will still probably be slow, but I’m feeling it. Thanks for the support, and even for the good natured shaming.

How far are you planning on tearing in to it? After lifting the heads on mine a few times, it's easy to see why folks go the aluminum head route.
Also I was just thinking, "I wonder who'll finish their GT40P first?" 🤣🤣🤣 And forgot to insert this tune.

Kidding aside, mine will be a slow process too since I don't really need it and minus the job part too. It would be cool to go whole hog with it though, like uncle Penny Bags Turner 😂
I have to say, I’m surprised/impressed/happy about the condition of this “new” ‘98 5.0 so far. Heads look clean enough to eat off of under the covers. Still has drops of oil clinging to the springs here and there. Gettting encouraged...
Wow, thats very clean.
Post some pics of your door gaps showing the full length. Also some pics showing the entire length of the hood to fender gaps. I think your hood can move a little closer forward and it looks a bit **** eyed as far as fender gaps. Not trying to be a douche, just tryin to help a brother out. When it comes to aligning the fender extension you can play with movement on the 4 retainer clips. They usually fit pretty snuggly best to move them in the direction you want first then put the screws in. Try placing the extensions on and placing it where you want it, then take notice where the retainers are located in the fastener holes. That will give you a better idea where best to try to locate them. But first concentrate on the fender to hood edges. When adjusting the hood what works best for me is if you have to tweak it a bit, just loosen the bolts just enough so that you can move the hood around but tight enough so that you can slowly raise it without moving it while you snug them back down.

I may pick one up, just to have for future stuff. My engine is the 5.0 unicorn, to refresh your memory. I bought it 20 years ago from a QA inspector at the Ford Cleveland plant. It's off the assembly line, intended for a 1998 Explorer, but never installed. So, basically it's a 23 year old "new" motor. Intention is stock bottom end, RPM intake, Summit 500 cfm carb, shorty headers and either the little Lunati Voodoo cam, a TFS1 or something similar. Mild with punchy low and midrange. It's sole purpose will be to be driven, a LOT. I hope to make Kelly's Jane look like a trailer queen......
:LOL::LOL::LOL:
Autorestomod has an excellent video on installing those. I used it when I put mine back together. I think one of the videos they used a door with the outer skin cut off so you could see everything.
I used Noico thermal insulation on the underside of my roof. It worked great, got it from Amazon. 15.7" x 9.8" self adhesive sheets, it worked great. I used Noico on my floor as well, my floor was cool to touch from inside the car. Good stuff without breaking the bank.

What mil did you use?
I have the box in the garage I'll take a look next time out.
Russ I used Noico Solutions 80mil, part # SNL1. It's a 36 square foot package from Amazon. And for the roof I used this stuff. I had enough left over to do the roof of my friends FB.

Am I correct in thinking you were also getting rid of points in favor of Duraspark?

Very nice indeed. What are your plans for a clutch? Make your own clutch rods? How about roller pedal as well? And then there's a shifter. Stock or Hurst?
Our burgundies look way different to me. Pretty sure yours more closely matches the original.
I see what you're saying patrick about the difference in colors. Like, your's reminds me of that Merle Haggard song. You know the one, The Running Kind. 😂

Not exactly 1 step forward and 2 steps back, but I keep discovering all the parts I didn’t get back years ago with the car, like all the rear interior trim pieces. This is going to get expensive I’m afraid.
That is a damn shame.
What type of clutch are you using? Put the spring on after you install the pedal assembly.
