The skinny leg comment was a bit awkward to me but back to the build. What do you have to do the the steering column? It looks good from the photo...

Rebuild, repaint, new turn signal.

So how much grease do you plan on putting in the steering column?

Allen
No idea, what do you suggest. Figured I’d Google it or ask Bart.

IIRC, the shaft has grease already in it (what seemed like too much really).

If memory serves, I tried to duplicate it while at the same time not just putting in wasteful globs of grease.

I've seen it discussed before on here, probably an easy search. I just wasn't sure if you already had a plan of attack.

If the grease is still in your column, it would be interesting to see a picture of it.

EDIT: 66 Steering Column Grease

Brown grease was definitely on the top, will check bottom when I clean the tube.

Top part definitely had some of that brown grease. I’ll look at the old shaft and see what clues I can find. It’s a side project for now, making sure the pedal box will go back in without having to move wiring around is first. I’m still Dr restricted to not lifting over 20 pounds for another week so I’ll have to see how it goes. Getting all of me under the dash probably equates to way more than that.

So much for taking it easy. Decided to take the column apart, repack the bearings and strip down to bare metal for a repaint.

Not sure if I understand? Why would there be grease inside the steering column? I obviously can see inside the box. I put a dab of grease around the collar before putting the steering wheel on but that's it.
I didn’t have any in my column, just around the bearings.

Ok that makes sense. Very nice job btw.
Thanks, I be blowing black dust out of my nose for days. Any recommendations on a good spray paint for this?

From what I have seen, there is grease in the column of unmolested steering columns.

I'm sure @Russstang 's has been molested...

Great work Scott. Keep digging. You’ll get there.
You guys keep up the positive encouragement, I'll make sure the negative is taken care of...

"Positive reinforcement is a process that strengthens the likelihood of a particular response by adding a stimulus after the behavior is performed. Negative reinforcement also strengthens the likelihood of a particular response, but by removing an undesirable consequence."

"Results of the current study suggest that a combination of both positive and negative reinforcement was most effective for increasing one participant's compliance to simple tasks. One possible explanation for these results is that the combination of both contingencies increased the individual value of each reinforcer."

I don't make the rules, just following them... ;)

Thanks for the encouragement, the discouragement and the random, selfish whiny comments from the Fox body contingent. No grease in my column, just around the top where the bearings are. Column was rust free top and bottom, surprisingly, but there was some around the floorboard area. Nothing a wire wheel and some sandpaper can’t take care of. I have new bushings and seals so after I paint it I’ll put it all back together.
I'm in a good place with my progress. December and January taught me patience.
