Doing my wiring now and I don't have my engine in the car. Trying to visualize how to run my wires so I can get them at least close to their final destination.

I know a bunch of you have done great jobs running your wires behind the inner fenders or through the center of the firewall. Did a search and pictures aren't showing up in a lot of the old posts.

I'm using the American Autowire classic update harness.

Couple of questions:

Where'd you mount your starter relay/soleniod and get wires to it? I welded up the stock holes. Don't think I have room in the inner fender below the battery tray because my AC hoses pass through there. I could use the vintage style or even one off a foxbody if that's more suitable for the EFI system I'll be using. Don't think it matters though. Also need to get from that relay to the starter & alternator. Thoughts?

Where you mount the coil? I'm thinking low on driver side either on the front face of the shock tower or maybe on the inner fender in front of the shock tower. I'll be running EFI, so won't be using a vintage looking coil.

I'll need to route my EFI harness through the firewall and can also put the wires for the distributor, temp & oil pressure sensors in that bundle. I guess I could also pass the wires for AC Compressor in that bundle too.

Tips & pics would be appreciated.

Hey Dan, when I started the AAW rewire in my 68 I wanted to clean up the engine bay.
To start I put the battery in the trunk and even though I had a PMGR starter a solenoid went back there as well.
All the forward wiring went outside the left and right aprons enclosed and sealed inside surplus dishwasher hose with rubber grommet seals at each end. I used simple aluminum clamps to secure the hose mounted to the under side fender bolts.
The wiring to the rear went along the inner rockers on each side.as did the #4 and 1/0 welding cable to the alternator and starter.
I dont have EFI but I mounted the coil behind the cab on the firewall, the Crane ignitioin box is inside the car where the dash center speakers used to be.
There is a distribution box where the battery used to route the other engine and A/C wiring needs
I hope some of this helps , good luck!
Here are some random pictures

I hid my wiring behind both inner fenders cuz i it looks cool, but it's a pain in the a$$ to get to when needed. And you will have to get to it. I won't be doing that mod again. Just some fyi stuff.

I also ran some extra wires in those hoses just in case but yeah Bob, all that stuff hidden will cause major headaches when the time comes.

Thanks for the tips. I have a PMGR starter, so I'll look at the Bosch starter relay. Pretty sure that's the same type used on the fox body mustangs ( and that I'm using in my FFR Cobra ).

I like how you used the fender bolts to hold the wiring loom. I'm using nylon woven split loom, so that should protect the wires. I agree it will complicate getting to the wires (and I don't want to jinx myself), but I don't think I should need to get in there after the car is built. Already putting in all the wiring for electric fans and don't foresee needing to add other electrical accessories when it's done. At least I have a lift, so once the wheel is off, I should have decent access without having to crawl on the ground.

For what? I tucked my wiring under the fenders 14 years ago and never looked back. Haven't needed to access.

Needed to splice in for headlight relays. It's always something.

Starter relay and battery box. Located in the Right rear where the rear seat used to be. The red cable goes to a keyed master switch that powers the car. The fuse block provides power to some accessories such as the trunk release relay and others.

Dan, the foxes still used a solenoid. SN95 was the first with a relay.
Must disagree! My 86, 88 & 89 all had relays. Quite tidy one’s actually.

I still have the 88. I may even have the original relay around somewhere after its conversion to Super Pro config. Will post pics if found.

Most sites still call that a solenoid, it's basically a flat solenoid, all but the 'i' post (it doesn't need w/o points).

Dan I read a lot on the trunk mounted battery/ solenoid while installing mine, there's a few ways to skin that cat but most had some random issue like the 'chevy click' so I went with the Powermasters PMGR instructions and Mad Electric to hopefully have no issues for years as I plan to drive out of state a lot.

I installed a 150A resettable circuit breaker on the 10ga. line to my 100A alt. and 250A mega fuse to my starter (always hot 1/0 cable).

I read through this old thread to find the pros/cons of various ways: bypassing pmgr mini starter solenoid

I am running most of my wires along the inner fender as others and across inside the front radiator frame channel in split wire loom as you've ordered.
