Have 1972 coupe, removed vinyl top to so I can get the car painted. Have about a dozen holes that I need to mig weld. Should I just use lowest setting on mig and smallest wire I have to keep from burning thru.
I would make a small copper backing plate with some magnets. The weld wont stick to the copper and you can build off the edges easier. If it's not rusty you shouldnt burn through. Sand all the paint off around the holes of course. No clue what mig you have but yeah probably fairly low, I almost never use the very lowest setting as it's like soldering lol. Small zaps around the outside first then it will bridge together better with a little more elapsed time (heat). Have the air hose in your other hand, from the second you let go of the trigger, count like 3 seconds, then blast it cool with air to keep the warpage to a minimum.
