There's been a lot of discussion about this. I was one of the chief whiners who likes it better this way (as opposed to latest-reply-sends-to-top). I beleive this was the majority consensus, so Bob changed it to this format. I suppose if enough people don't like it this way, we should set up some kind of poll to take a vote.

For me, as someone who spends most of my time answering questions and spent a good 10 hours yesterday figuring out the site and trying to explain it in plain language, having my information posts buried 2 pages back has been frustrating....

I guess I'll get over it...

I think the most urgent or active post should be on the top, it just makes more sense to me. Sometimes
posts don't even get answered because they get covered up so quick. I was under the impression that the
change to the new format was for the advanced features like newest post on top.

I find it hard to keep up, I don't know what I have read and what I haven't. I also don't like seeing the same post over and over, especially if someone types a reply that has no message, just LOL...n/m, in the subject line....It also felt like a thousand posts per day was being posted....

Maybe we need a vote on that /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I am fighting fires all over the place too. All we need is another CBS special on exploding tanks and we are gonna have trouble finding the good stuff again.

I raised this issue before on the old board and it got buried. The reason I feel that there is so much support for the old style is that the users that benefit from it (the ones that go back so many threads) are the only ones who voice their opinion over time. On the other board the first 6 posts said Yes for the Post to Top format ... then as my thread moved back a few levels the sentiment changed.

I've asked Bob a couple of times, well, recommended actually, to have the threads and the latest-post-to-the-top be allowed as an individual preference. Maybe when the new software gets installed this weekend...

but, it's gonna cause the same problem with repitition... unless it defaults to post on top. With that default it would keep the common posts near the top for new users. That would be EXCELLENT. And then the dilligent users that dig in each time could return to this method with a little click of their profile.

THIS WOULD BE THE SOLUTION ... however I know that sometimes with 3rd party software you can't get it all.

Hm, I can see both side's point - a hot topic will alway be near the top but this still won't prevent somebody's post from being buried if no one knows (posts) an answer right away. That person may still have to repost to get an answer. With the number of posts growing exponentially, I'm not sure if newest-post-to-top will help.

I guess being a linear thinker I don't mind the current situation. If the seach feature works and we can posts links, doesn't that help?

I agree. Yesterday, it was difficult to find the new posts. Posts were going unanswered because they were being buried within minutes instead of the usual half day to a whole day. I made a post about the windsor heads. In 15 minutes it was on page 2 (I have 60 posts per page), I got one reply, and would venture to guess very few people ever saw it.

I agree wholeheartedly to that. I posted something about Windsor heads too (hey!) and got one response. I figured others would have seen it (especially camachinist) :) and might have said something. I had been debating reposting, but that would have just added to the "glut" of messages.

For a poll to work and be fair it would have to be at the top of the threads and be locked so that it will not move down the list. The supporters of the post to top will not see it as thread 75 but the people against post to top surely will.

Midlife has asked Bob to look at it. I just hope it is possible to make it a user option and that it will default to post to top for users (so new users start out seeing it this way to prevent 150 seperate threads on "is my picture working").

This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
