to get the vent window out after you have taken out the nut and springs, put the window in the half-open position and push down to release it from where it is held in on the frame. once it's released there, you can pull it out of the bottom
you have to drill the rivets to remove the stainless channel.
haven't seen or installed repro frames. they cost about the same as replating the originals and I would always prefer an original part over a repro.
