I guess everyone hear has heard a story that is too good to be true, but here goes another:

I was parked in Kroger's parking lot last night, and this guy comes up to me, and starts asking me if I had a 68 mustang. I told him I had a 65, and he said it was the same thing (LOL!). Anyway, last Fall he bought a 70 Mach I (or that is what he said it was?) with a BOSS 302 for $150, it didn't run, but he "tinkered" with it, bought tires, and is driving it now, but he wants to sell it for $400. The body is gone, but the interior is still fairly nice, but i'm interested in the motor. Anyway to tell if it is really a Boss? He is going by the valve covers, and it was way too dark to look last night, but I got his phone #, and I want to know what to look for when I go back?

First thing I'd look for is screw-in freeze plugs. If none there,
end of story.

hmmmmm lets see one sure way, is to crawl under the car and look near the pan rail for the engine casting number. It should be DOZE or D1ZE for a 70 block and C8SE for the 69 block. if it has cleveland heads (bolts in the valve covers) AND an intake that is connected to the radiator via a hose (unlike a Cleveland that has a "dry" intake), that is another indicator. while you are under the car, look for screw in freeze plugs rather than the pressed in stamped out plugs. better yet, take a camera over and take some pics - should be able to positively ID it that way here on the forum....
