How do I lock down my dist. Advance?

Well, It looks like I am going to try and use the MSD timing computer to control my timing. I need to disable all vacuum and mechanical advance within my stock distributor. How should I go about doing this?? I have only been "inside" my dist. once to change the springs.

Thanks gang,

I've done it before on a Duraspark unit on the race car but I'll have to look at one of the distributors in the shop to give you specifics...

If no one has posted by the time I get a break today, I'll get back to you...

You should be able to just replace the srpings with wire. The weights have to "swing out" to advance the timing. If you just use wire around the posts that hold the springs in (maybe a little solder to hold in place) they can't swing out, meaning they can't do anything.

Others may have better ideas, though. I'd like to hear how Hottarod locked his down.

My distrib is a Mallory mechanical advance but anyway all I had to do was screw in the advance limiting stop screws on mine. I would assume that all of the mechanical advance mechanisms have some kind of weight travel limiting stop screws to keep the thing from slinging the weights out too far. You would especially need something like that if you run weak springs.
