Hi,
Should the starter stop turning cold the minute you release the contact? My old starter would make a descending whirring spinning sound that could be heard quite loudly over the engine every time that I would start the car. The solenoid seemed to work fine? I changed the starter, and now the whirring sound is much quieter than the engine sound, but if I disconnect the coil you can hear the descending spinning after I release the contact. Is this normal for a starter? I pulled the coil wire on my '92 5.0 and it also keeps spinning to a lesser extant after I release the contact. Thanks.
Paul.

Thanks Bill, but just so I'm clear... the starter should continue to spin for a second, winding down after you release the contact? Or should it stop cold (no sound at all) the minute you release it? Thanks again.
Paul.
