I am trying to finish all the little things the PO did not address. My steering column lock out rod is not properly adjusted. I can remove the key in any gear and I can put the car in any gear when the key is off. I understand both of these situations is wrong. As I understand to adjust this, with the car in Park, I need to loosen the rod at the transmission, rotate the lever on the steering column until I can insert a No. 5 drill into the steering column using the hole in the lower right side of the column that is just below the ring on the column that rotates as the gear selector is moved. Is this correct or is there more to it? the car starts and shifts fine. Should I even bother with it?

That's about right for the adjustment. Leaving the key in the ignition is inviting a car thief and starting the car in any gear is looking for an accident to happen. Are you feeling lucky?

Before you do the rod, adjust the shifter and the neutral safety switch to factory spec, then do the rod.

If anything is loose or sloppy, now is the time to rectify it.
