I am converting a 71 351w block to hydraulic roller cam. I ordered everything from comp. cams including the cam {small base circle} and retro kit {the rail and guides}. The problem I am running into is that the guides {or H-bars} which keep the roller lifters from turning in their bores do not sit on the lifter bore { they sit about 1/8th of an inch higher than the lifter bore}. The problem with this is the lifter collide with the guides on their way up. I sent the cam back to comp cams and they said the cam was in spec. {also, I forgot to mention that I already ground down the casting numbers in the lifter valley as per instructions}. When I received the cam back, well, you guessed it, the retainer still placed the guides too high above the lifter bores. I have sent the retainer itself back to comp cams for them to check out. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks Mikey

I used the Crane retrofit lifters and the standard base circle cam.... Had to use shorter pushrods and special distributor gear.

I started to go that route, but deceided not to because if a lifter ever goes bad it would be easier to get a replacement at the local autoparts store.

P.S. sorry for the duplicate posts, I droped my keyboard and somehow got three posts.........mikey
