Hi,

I am at my wits end, and I don't know what to do. I wasn't thinking when I got ready to get into my '65 coupe today and instead of unlocking the door, I just tried to open the door. Well the button pushed in, but obviously the door didn't open since it was locked.

I put the key in the door, and it would not turn. I had to crawl in through the passenger's side. When I tried to pull up on the lock knob, it wouldn't budge. I tried to open the door from the inside, and it wouldn't budge.

So, now, I am in a heck of a mess. I have the door panel partially off, it won't come off completely since the door is shut. The top front edge is stuck on.

I can hold the door panel out far enough to work in the area of the latch mechanism from outside the car with the window down. But I don't know what to do. The latch seems all locked up.

Please someone help me. It is just about more frustration than I can take.

Thanks a lot for your time,
John Thomas

That's a pickel........ The first thing I would try to do is reach up at the back of the latch and get the "button" rod back into the "unpushed" position. Likely what's happening here is the latch is trying to open and be locked at the same time which it cannot do, the latch is binding and won't do either. If you can "clear" the "unlatch" function, it will probably then unlock and you will be back to the start.

Then get a new latch, only ones that are worn out will stick like this.

Good luck, let us know if this works.

Hal
