so the story is me and my dad just went and bought a 65 mustang with a 4 speed. it has an inline 6 in it and I cant get clear confirmation on what or if I can get a v8 and still keep the 4 speed used on the stock inline 6.. sorry still learning

Look for a tag on the gear housing or tailshaft and post up what it says. Ford offered more than one type of four speed manual on early mustangs, including a Dagenham you probably wouldn't want. There's a decent chance it's not the original transmission anyway. If you could post a pic that would help.

There is a ton of information on the internet as to what it takes to convert a six to an eight. Start here and read up.

The Dagenham 4 speed used with the 6 cylinder engine wouldn't last very long behind a V8 if it would even fit. And there is no parts support for it to keep it working.
Maybe it has been replaced with somthing else, maybe not.
