trying to remove the rear axle on the 71 i have, and nearly all of the bolts are rusted to crap. the u-bolts that connect the axle to the leaf springs are rusted to the point where the only round off when you try to remove them... and i am having trouble getting the front bolt of the leaf springs off. any suggestions as to how i can get the axle off?

Sawzall, the only way to go... ;)

I would get a Sawzall and cut the U-bolts that hold the axle onto the leaf spring, then use it to cut the front spring attaching bolt.

Or you could use a torch on the U-bolts (if you have one). Don't torch the front spring bolts, though - some people have set their rear seat on fire doing so (you know who you are).

Don't forget to use Tungsten Carbide Sawzall Blades for cutting the front leaf bolts!!!
