help!! last night i was driving my 68' stang down the road and all of a sudden it dropped out of gear. i tried everything but it wouldnt get back in to any gears. it can reverse so i reversed it i to a parking lot. does anyone have any idea what my problem is and if so can u tell me how to fix it.

Hi, is it stick shift or auto? if it is stick it could be linkage came off? if it is auto could be trouble!!! John

I agree, with a manual tranny the linkage could have come loose cousing the problem, but if its an auto, shine up the credit card!

If it is a standard trans and you were doing normal driving at the time it is most likely linkage! If it is an automatic there are a number of possibilities.

its an ato tranny. :( just how much am i looking at in expenses??

Hi, there are alot of things that can stop it from going forward but it sounds like the forward clutches have come apart. This unfortuneately in volves a rebuild so depending where you are it could get fairly expensive. I live in southern NJ and to rebuild a C4 here you would be looking at around $500-$600 John
