My 83 380sl had a cracked subframe so that maybe I'd throw the front end at high speed. After a few days of negotiating, they picked up all parts and labor-would have cost me $1700 retail.
I'm not positive but I think that there was a recall on the 380SL for cracked sections!!! Call 1800 FOR MERCEDES and check with them. IIRC I read this in the Mercedes-Benz club magazine. You could also check with the club and they might direct you in the right direction, or check with the NTHSA recall list. I just had my subframe bushings replace on my 560SL, $1600.

Nothing works better when dealing with the Fatherland than an appeal to their Teutonic pride in workmanship and engineering!
As a former owner of 2 BMWs, I can tell you that it works nearly every time.
