A kid I know wants a 428 and I know that in a junk yard around here sits a 66 custom (ex highway patrol) with 428 badges. How do you identify a 428 block for sure? I know that it's a FE and a 4v it still looks original, but my FE knowledge ends there. I was thinking that there is a possibility that some time in it's life it could have been replaced with a 390 or some other FE.
Pull the cylinder head and measure the cylinder bore, the 428 is 4.13. Another way to I.D a 428, is to remove the center freeze plug on the side of the block, and look for 428 cast into the water jacket behind the plug. Good luck
