Went for a quick run around the block yesterday in my 67 after throwing a can of fuel in it. Unfortunately it pings bad under full throttle so guess I either put the wrong petrol in it(octane to low) or the timing is out. Could someone post the timing figures and quick rundown on the best way to set it using a timing light.
Thanks for any help

Before you touch timing light, check that timing marks line up ok. The damper outer ring has a tendency to move after the bonding rubber has deteriorated. Turn the engine with with your favorite finger in cyl 1 plug hole when you feel air squashing out of the cylinder you are nearing TDC. See if the timing marks on the outer ring correspond to timing indicator.

If ok, warm the engine and set up the timing light and shoot for about 10BTDC initial. Test drive, if no pinging, push it to 12, test drive, if no pinging.... When you hear pinging back off two degrees.
