can anyone add anything to this? im doing this as we speak, and this helps, but it still doesnt seem like the converter is all the way in, ive pushed and rotated it several times. its a 351W fmx combo. the engine is hanging from the cherry picker, and the trans is in position jacked up the car is on the ground, should i put it on jackstands? does it matter where the converter drain plug is? it seems all 4 bolt holes have provisions for it to stick out thru the flexplate thanks everyone

Ok, you're not doing as the original poster contemplated with mounting the torque-convert to the flexplate first, are you? Don't!

Personally, I think installing as 2 pieces is the hard way, but sounds like it's too late. You will feel when the torque converter drops into place (will have like 2 clunks), and you won't even be able to fit your fingers between the bellhousing and the converter.

REMEMBER DO NOT DRAW THE ENGINE AND TRANNY TOGETHER BY THE BOLTS! If they don't fit flush with just pushing them together, you don't have everyting lined up (which is why I think installing together is easier ... much easier to do that alligning in the garage where you can move things around and see things better).

Good luck with the install!
