My desire is to keep my stock snorkle air cleaner on my 65 289/C4. I have a Shelby style hood, I dont know if thats more/less or the same clearance.

I dont have my car here to measure.

Im wondering what combination will fit best under the hood and if the Summit carb will clear the air cleaner.

The Edlebrock Performer has a height of 4.12 in and the Summit carb has a height of 3.75 in.

The Weiand Street Warrior has a height of 4.785 in.

Im going to want a spacer with a vacuum port on it.

Lots of threads about manifolds/carbs/spacers/hoods, but not many adding the oem snorkle air cleaner.

I’m using a repro spacer with a port for the PCV. I can’t remember exactly what the application was, something for a 428 Mustang. I needed a thin one because of my Wieand Stealth. I believe I bought it at Carlisle a few years back. So they do exist is what I’m trying to say.

Your 289 with the E-Brock intake and either carb should fit with the snorkel using a 1" spacer. 351W has a taller block and you might run into trouble. Not the case with 302 or 289.

I have the performer intake and an Edelbrock carb (1403), along with a 1" spacer and the original snorkel air cleaner fit with about 3/4" clearance from the stock hood. However, the snorkel air cleaner isn't on my car at the moment because it was hindering the throttle from opening fully. And then once I pressed my foot down to figure out what was sticking on the throttle, it didn't allow the return spring to return the throttle to idle position. That was a fun 2 seconds. So check that on your carb, unlike this idiot. Otherwise, you should be good with hood clearance assuming the Summit carb isn't much taller than the Eddy.

If this chart is accurate, you're looking at the same height as me:

Thanks, on another note, I have a 1.14 2100 with a C5 casting that I picked up years ago. What would that be off of ? A 352 maybe.

RATS

Went online to order almost 1k of parts and the Summit 500cfm carb is out of stock until mid-August.

I dont want to wait until mid-August. My 2100 is leaking fuel and I dont want to drive it.

Back to square 1.

Throw a rebuild kit in the 2bbl until your carb arrives, or go with the summit 600? I’m running a 600 on a 302, a cam, and headers. Stock heads with exhaust bumps ground out. It runs great. I really like the summit carbs.

Summit also has a discount bin for carbs that have been returned. I’ve bought one of those and had no issues with it at all. I think it was about a hundred bucks cheaper. Summit does go back through them to make sure they are good for resale

Did the playdoe test on the snorkle aircleaner under a Shelby hood. Ive got 1 7/8 clearance all the way around.

I pulled the carb and tightened down all the screws, its stopped leaking, at least for now.

Im dropping by Summit today to pick up a new waterpump and associated parts + a new heater core. The SD extended tube I ordered for the 67 is going in the 65, so I still need one for the 67.

Im going to put the intake/carb on the backburner for a bit. Im tossing between Sniper vs Summit 500 carb, Ive got a few months to hash it over.

I advocate the Street Warrior / Summit 500cfm Carb combo. Hopefully you'll be able to get that eventually. Don't know about clearance but if you run a short spacer I doubt you will have TOO many problems. Could always modify the air cleaner assembly a little.

I don't remember if the D Code five bolt block sits lower in the engine bay than a later six bolt block but I have a Edlebrock Performer 289, a 1" spacer with PCV port I got from Summit and a 4100 Carb with and the round air cleaner with the snorkel with a Frame Air Hog filter inside. It fits without any clearance issues with the stock hood
