YES! If real, that is an extremely rare car and may be one of the American Speedway pacecars. Ask for the VIN and post here. If real, the 5 element in the VIN should be an R for 428CJ ramair (shaker) or Q (non ramair).....

Sorry , but as far as I know there is no such thing as a drop top mach1. Just having an R in the serial number only means that the car has a 428 cj with a shaker. R code converts do exist but are very rare however , and none of them should be mach 1's. I believe that the car should have a 5 as the fourth digit of the vin , this means the car is a mach1 ( I think ). Keep in mind that the car could also be retagged with a different serial number. The ONLY way to tell if the car is real is to run the vin number through Kevin Marti. Everything else can be faked, shock tower bracing , staggered shocks , vin tags, mach 1 goodies. I would stay away from this car. But , if you are serious about the car , run the vin number and see what happens.

The only Mach 1's were the fastback, also known as sport's roofs. It's a nice looking car, but I'd stay away -- especially at that price.....

OK.... I called the guy. Seems he's been trying to document the car for some time now and can't seem to get any straight answers as to its originality. It is NOT an original r code car , it's an h code car that he put the 428 in. He seems to be a nice enough guy and will admit right away that this is an odd car. When I called him and asked about the car the first thing he said was "And you've never heard of a 70 mach1 convert, right ". Anyway , he told me a story about the AIR pace cars , seems that some came with 351's and had the engines swapped for 428's. He also has all of the Twister decals for it. I gave him Kevin Marti's phone number and suggested he call him to get the scoop. I know that ford did some strange things with mustangs , but could this be a real car ? I don't know , still seems fishy. It would be interesting to see what Kevin Marti digs up on the car.
