Guy I bought the car off of thought it had one in there. I thought I'd ask you guys if that's what that is in there. I want to order the parts to rebuild it all next week but I'm tearing it all apart this weekend so I know the bearing sizes and everything I need. I just want to know if that's a locker so I can order the stuff to rebuild it too.
If I need to take a picture from another angle to ID it just tell me and I'll take more.
Generally speaking, if you have to use a socket to remove the ring gear bolts, it's a traction-lock or equa-lock. If you can remove them with a wrench, it's open.

I've also been told that if you turn one wheel and the other one spins in the opposite direction it's a locking rear and that's what mine did although I'd always thought that mean it was an open rear up until I was told that recently.

Wheels turn the same direction on a locker, trac-locker, etc. If you can turn one wheel with the other one on the ground it is an open, or if both are elavated and they turn opposite directions (assuming the driveshaft is not moving) it is an open.
The wrench versus socket rule concerns Ford units. Since you can see the Ford part number on yours it is a Ford unit, hence it is an open.

So I guess I'm in the market for one then. Any suggestions for a good one for not a lot of cash? I'm not going to be racing it (except maybe one pass down the drag strip to see what it'll do). Also what's the difference between a locker and a posi unit?
Sounds to me you want a Trac-Loc. It can be found in cars or truck with a 9" and you would be surprised as to how cheap you might get one at a wrecking yard.
I would not recommend it for an everyday, daily driver. send a private message to the user DENVER. he is a member here and he is the guy that I bought my 8" trac-loc unit from.
the powertrax and lock-rite are for OFF road use only. (similiar in design to a detroit locker) what you have is a 4-spider(sometimes called 4-pinion or 4-pin) carrier.
the NEW traction-loks sell for $275+shipping. I also sell a unit called an econo-lok that is fine for street use and limited racing. its alot cheaper BUT its not the same as a traction-lok. PM me if you want info as I can convert your carrier over to it for cheap. I also sell rebuilt traction-loks (I have a limited supply) :winkgrin:
