HI, I am selling a Hood for a 66 mustang wich I was told was an Original, and a guy that stopped by to look at it said that there were supposed to be 5 numbers stamped on it if it was an original... there was alot of Oil and paint on the bottom side of it. I just ground a bounch of the crud off the bottom of it and found Three number stamped in two different places.
the number where
2 2 8 (they were stamped upside down on another spot so it might be 8 2 2)

anyway I was wondering if theese numbers ment that it was an original or a reproduction?

thanks
Jason

I don't think repo hoods have any numbers stamped in them. Sounds like what you found may be a date code??

Sounds like you found the date code of an original hood, repro's don't have date codes. Was the numbers on the lip near the hinged area on the driver's side? I bet if the guy mentioned 5 numbers, he is probably describing the date code from a double digit month and day, for example 11 21 1.
