Most likely a fender emblem that has been moved to the grille. I did the same thing on my 65.

What did you do to lean up the center of the grille where the pony mounts?

She's already black and white so even with setting the image to B&W it didn't change a whole lot lol. It's difficult to get the car out of the shop at the moment so these were the best pics I could grab.
