If you have a 289 in your car, a D3 or D4 carb would not be correct, just for the fact that the carbs are 1973 and 1974 versions, and the 289 was not made anymore by then. If you tell me the year of your motor or car, and type of trans, auto or manual, I can get you closer with the correct carb.

+1 on that year, what motor.

If it is a 1968, you need a C8 carb.

However, the carbs were being choked down by 1968. The typical 289 / 302 carb in 1968 was a 1.02 for most applications, some 1.08's, and a few 1.14's The 1.02's were often thermactor carbs, meaning smog, meaning small air flow and boggy performance.

IMHO, you should be looking for C5ZF-B (1965 289 automatic) 1.14 or C6DF-A or B (manual trans) 1.14. Good flow, easy to find very common carburetors.

Look for the 1.14 on the side of the carb, and the stamping on the foot. However, just because it is marked that way does not mean somewhere along the line, the guts have been swapped out for who know what (1.23 jets in a 1.02 body) etc.

ours is a 66 with original 289.and auto trans, the carb on it is a d4pe ec i have not looked for numbers on carb yet. im not overly concerned that its a 66 carb as this car came with smog, its not hooked up but i understand as Mustangerbob said the smog cars were choked down. i suspect that is why it has the 74 bronco/truck carb on it.

I have 102, 108, and 114 carbs. From what I have researched, your car should have a 1.14. since you are rebuilding anyway, you can use your own jets, etc. Here is a few pictures of two 1.14 carbs. $50.00 each which includes shipping to you. Jack
