I noticed a loud ticking from the engine the last time I drove the mustang. While it may be tough to diagnose without being on hand at the car, but would anyone try?

It sounds too loud to be a rocker arm, and does not sound grinding or binding....just a steady loud tick. The tempo increases with the revs of the engine...And it pretty much went away (or got much quieter) when I pulled over and checked under the hood at idle...

I'm thinking exhaust leak....Whaddaya think? TIA - Dickson

Could be low oil, stuck lifter, exhaust leak, loose spark plug (like I had last week), or...?. Get a tube of some sort to amplify the sound, and listen around your engine while it's running.

That sounds like an accurate assumption. :)

(Regular tone)

That definitely sounds like an exhaust leak... Was this on the L6 or your V8 car?

Sounds like exhaust to me.
If its not that. I could be ready to blow up.
One or the other I wouldn't be too worried about it! ;)

It's on the 289, with Tri-Y headers.

Sounds like an exhaust leak. Once you get it fixed you will be able to hear if the rockers are clicking too. :p

I had a tick too...make sure all the spark plugs are tight...sounds dumb, but that's what mine was!
