How can I tell if a car is a mach 1 or just a fastback? It's a '69. The vin is 9t02m117547. The first letter is kind of hard to read. It's eithor an 8, 0, or a 9, but it must be a 9 if it's a '69, right?

In 69, the body code is used to identify whether a car is a true Mach. The body code should start with 63C. 63A was a fastback, and 63B was a luxury fastback.

Buy the cheap Marti report. Do a search for the web address

The Marti report is the only definitive way to identify a '69 Mach 1 as genuine. The 63C body code is a hint, but since that's on the door plate and those are repro'd, it can't be taken as definitive.

The car is a N.J. built s/r with a 351 W 4bl, a good sign. The interior should have high back seats comfort weave, rimblow wheel, sewn in floor mats, deluxe door panels, faux wood grain dash with 'Mach 1' on the passenger side, and round clock. the exterior should have painted flat black hood, hood scope, hood pins, dual racing mirrors, pop open gas cap etc...
This is a general guide and most of these option where avail on other models but where std on Machs.
missing items could be just that.

Another Mach fact: no "Mustang" badges on the fenders.
