In defense of the judges for the modified division, one has to understand the guidelines they follow within that division. These guidelines are much different than the concours and trailered groups. The concours guys have to know the nuances of originality.
The Mod judges, look more for workmanship, cleanliness, originality in the sense of a modification etc.
For example, when you see a hundred cars with the same air cleaners and Holly or Eddy carbs, then, you run up against an OEM Judson, EFI, WEBER 4 stack or Dual WEBER sidedrafts (my case), 3 Deuces, dual quads etc., these can get you extra points if the workmanship is "spot on". It's more about the tasteful upgrades and modifications. Having hood props and trunk props, cracked windows, missing parts, no organization etc. is going to detract points. Having an organized list of your mods is helpful too.
Anyone of us, could be qualified to judge a Mod division, even if it's a "chebby". Just have to be impartial. LOL!

Nice photos. At many MCA nationals, when indoor parking is available, the Concours trailered cars get the preffered indoor spots. Its just the nature of the entries. I'd say most of the Concours entries get there in a covered trailer, already clean yet even then there is always that last minute clean up because some judges see around corners where you can't.
Hard to beleive that the judge did not know how to recognize the larger fuel tank, or other things like that. In the future, I am about to experience the "modified" class. We'll see how that goes.

@Grabber70Mach Great pictures! That is a great story about the 70. I remember seeing it while mwah talking to the owner of the red car and his son. I didn’t realize how unique the color is. With so many great cars there it was hard to see them all. Plus my buddy and I had to leave at noon. With more time we could have paid more attention.
It's hard to catch it all. We ended up going on Friday and Saturday, definitely a lot of really nice cars. One day I hope mine is good enough for someone to admire and feel looks like it belongs with some in a group like these.

Hey grabber70mach, thats my car in post 13, photo 5............the dirty, rode hard and put away wet, red 66 fastback, lol! if i ever go as a judged car again I may spend more time polishing everything in the engine bay and whatever else the judges didn't like, but then again...I will say that I think the concourse crowd cars are harder to build and maintain than my tastefully modified k code. We will see how the 65 hardtop I am restoring basically stock for my wife turns out, it will get one MCA show after its finished, then it will become a clean driver. i will also take off from work and do the whole 3 days or whatever....i did learn alot and had a good time...just surprised at how little the one judge knew about 65-66 mustangs....he knew clean and spotless vs not clean and spotless when he saw it though!
I walked by your car multiple times, stopping and admiring it more than once. Wish I knew it was yours I would've chatted.

Looks like the missing Jim Morrison '67 Shelby...

What color is your interior?!? Morrison's was a Parchment Interior.

)

Its the black comfort weave.

However, I have seen a 67 GT 500 locally with the parchment. Beautiful combination with the Nightmist Blue!

It will be a tribute to Lil' Red, the 67 GT500 coupe. Need another year or two. And it will be darn accurate.

Your car sounds familair / looks familiar. Was it entered it the MCA national in Indianapolis some 10 plus years ago? I judged one that had a color change, engine change to a 427, and a couple of other things. I really hated taking a whole pile of points off because it was not "as delivered".
Shame, it should have been in the modified class.
